Anti-Solar Florida Bill Backfires, Encourages More Solar

Florida utility companies spent $20 million promoting Amendment 1, which would have surcharged residents who install solar panels and remain on the grid. The bill was defeated, and all the attention has encouraged more Floridians to install solar panels on their homes.

"I get a lot of questions from my neighbors now. I believe that came about from all the publicity on Amendment 1 and was it a good thing or a bad thing," said Lori Cunniff, Orange County environmental manager.

The Orange County solar coop has been contacted by 300 more people to purchase panels because of media coverage around Amendment 1.
